Anything But a Low-Fat Breakfast

PANAMA CITY, Fla. — When you can see butter oozing out from between the slices of toast, it’s obvious this isn’t a low calorie meal.

“How’s the heart attack on a plate?,” my girlfriend, Ruth, asks. Indeed, the FDA wouldn’t approve of this diet. That’s what makes it so good.

You can hit a Waffle House in any number of towns. When traveling, I find it’s best to find somewhere local, order their specialty and flip through the pages of the local newspaper.

Charlie Coram’s is know for their “Heavenly Hash” — a mix of hash browns, jalapeños and onions and topped with cheese — just in the other ingredients didn’t count for enough carbs. The restaurant touted the dish as famous and they delivered.
